“Greatness is built on dreams. All the remarkable people are dreamers. They imagine vast horizons on a spring morning or under the glow of a winter sunset. Some of us let these dreams fade away, but others nurture them, care for them through tough times until they finally bask in the light of hope and achievement that comes to those who truly believe in their dreams.â€
~Woodrow Wilson
So last night, I dreamed in blog posts. Yes, seriously. I saw photos and read the accompanying text as if it were real, and yet, at the same time, it felt like it was my actual life. The weirdest part? These posts weren’t about things I've done—they were future ideas, unformed yet vivid in my mind. Usually, I don't remember my dreams at all. In fact, I’m not sure I even dream most nights.
And this whole "like" phenomenon? I think I’ve been subconsciously channeling the Valley Girl vibe or something. Weird, right?
Anyway, one of the dreams went something like this:
Lashes! (Yes, there was an exclamation point in my dream!)
We women have this strange, almost instinctual pull toward certain things—long, lush lashes, fairy tale romances, a bicycle we can proudly ride down the street. As the youngest girl in a family of boys, I grew up getting a lot of hand-me-downs. Instead of the pink princess bike I longed for, I ended up with a candy-apple red Schwinn-like beauty. It was beautiful but not quite mine. Then one magical day, I woke up to find my very own pink princess bike. I rode it that summer, but by the next year, I was too grown-up for such childish things.
Irony at its finest, huh?
By the way, my daughter is now riding that very bike, and she absolutely adores it. My parents gave it to her.
Nowadays, I try to recreate that candy-apple red perfection in nail polish and lipstick shades.
Doesn’t it all sound a bit nonsensical? Totally! But that’s the beauty of dreams, isn’t it?
Also, I dreamed I was battling a mama alligator to fend off a mama cheetah. At some point, the cheetah stepped on my hand and didn’t notice because I stayed perfectly still, like a champ. I fought hard and outsmarted them both. The best part? I was rocking an outfit so cute, and the boots? They were absolutely stunning. Except not literally, since I think I lost one boot to the alligator while trying to survive.
Irony strikes again.
(And, if you’re wondering, I did see the actual outfit and boots in my dream, and apparently, I can’t string two sentences together in my dreams without throwing in a question mark or capital letters. Who knew I was so ironic in my subconscious mind?)
Maybe it was the pizza.
But here’s the thing—there are dreams I hold onto tightly, the ones I see through cloudy days just as clearly as sunny ones. Those dreams are for my two free-spirited kids. I dream of seeing their hopes and aspirations flourish. No matter what they want to be or achieve, there will always be a cheering crowd ready to celebrate them—just for being themselves.
On days when tears blur our vision and stress feels overwhelming, I remind myself that this journey is beautiful. We push forward, we let go, and we celebrate every step of the way. So dream big, everyone. Dream beyond limits.
