Seasonal maintenance of harvester

After the harvesting season, proper maintenance of the harvester is essential to ensure its longevity and performance for future use. The primary task involves thoroughly cleaning the machine, removing dirt, dust, grass clippings, and any accumulated grass wrap that may have built up during operation. All drive belts should be removed, inspected, and fully lubricated before storage. For backpack models, it's important to detach the working parts from the tractor and follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for tractor maintenance. The working components should be stored on a flat surface, using a support pad if necessary to prevent uneven settling. In areas where the paint has peeled off, it’s recommended to repaint or apply waste oil and grease to protect the metal from rust and corrosion. Any worn or damaged parts should be replaced promptly to avoid further damage during future operations. Belts should be removed and either hung on a wall or laid flat on a board to maintain their shape and integrity. For self-propelled models, the maintenance process is similar to the backpack model, but additional steps are required. This includes draining the engine cooling water, cleaning the radiator, and replacing the air filter if necessary. Check and top up all oils, including engine oil, hydraulic fluid, and other lubricants as specified in the manual. If any fluids are found to be degraded or contaminated, they should be replaced immediately. All control levers should be relaxed, and the frame should be supported so that the rubber tracks are not in contact with the ground. This helps to reduce stress on the tracks and maintain their condition over time. The harvester should be stored in a dry, indoor area with good ventilation, away from sources of fire, oil, and chemicals. It’s advisable to regularly check the engine and inject an appropriate amount of lubricating oil into the combustion chamber. Turning the crankshaft several times manually will help distribute the oil evenly within the cylinders, preventing dry starts when the machine is used again. Lubrication plays a crucial role in maintaining the efficiency and lifespan of the harvester. By applying oil or grease to moving parts, friction is reduced, which in turn lowers resistance and wear. While the specific lubrication requirements may vary slightly between different types of harvesters, the general principles remain consistent across models. Regular lubrication ensures smooth operation and minimizes the risk of mechanical failure.
