Important Considerations for Using a Fermentation Bed
1. Bacterial Dosage: For a pigsty of about 20 pens (approximately 15 pigs), use 2 kg of Jinbao fermentation aid. First, apply 1.6 kg at once, and then add the remaining as needed. The size of the sty should be no less than 10 square meters. Overcrowding can lead to excessive urine accumulation, which may stop the fermentation process.
2. Dilution Method: Mix the Goldfish fermentation aid with rice bran (or corn flour, or wheat bran). The ratio should be bacteria to bran of 1:5 or more. Fresh rice bran provides better nutrients than old ones. After mixing, evenly sprinkle it over the sawdust. If possible, spray a small amount of 5% brown sugar water onto the mixture to enhance microbial activity.
3. Sawdust Amount: For an area of 20 square meters, the litter thickness should be at least 50 cm, requiring approximately 10 cubic meters of sawdust. Too thin will prevent proper fermentation, while too thick may cause overheating. You can spread the fermentation aid all at once across the entire bedding or in 3-4 layers. It's best to dry the old sawdust or use fresh sawdust. UV sterilization is also recommended to avoid skin irritation. If the bedding becomes too dry and affects the pigs' breathing, lightly spray water or brown sugar water on the surface. Normally, you shouldn’t add water or humidify the internal bedding, as the moisture level will naturally adjust with time as waste accumulates.
4. Alternative Litter Materials: Try to use sawdust if available. If not, rice husks or straw can be used as alternatives, but the top 20 cm should still be sawdust. Note that rice husks should be crushed, and straw should be cut into pieces shorter than 0.5 cm or crushed, but not too fine.
5. Humidity Control: Maintain the right moisture level in the bedding. If it's too dry and causes dust, mist the surface with water. After pigs urinate, the maximum humidity should not exceed 65%. Avoid any rainwater or groundwater from entering the bed. The standard sty area should be at least 20 square meters, adjusted based on the number of animals. A minimum of 10 square meters is not recommended for fermentation beds. For more details, visit the official website or contact the support team.
