At the 124th Oriental Science and Technology Forum, many leading scientists believe that strong field lasers could soon become powerful tools for human health, particularly in areas like cancer treatment and microsurgery.
A strong field ultrafast laser creates extreme physical conditions through intense, ultra-short pulses of energy. One notable example is "Shenguang II," developed by the Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics under the Chinese Academy of Sciences. While this device is highly advanced, researchers are working to refine its parameters and further shorten the pulse duration, aiming to create more compact and cost-effective systems. These smaller devices could enable new applications, such as using laser-generated protons for cancer radiation therapy.
Currently, similar technologies have already reached the commercial stage in some countries. Experts have tested their own laser systems in practical experiments, including a "tooth hole drilling" test. The results showed that the laser created clean, precise holes in teeth without any chipping or uneven edges. Additionally, the heat generated was minimal, significantly reducing patient discomfort.
