Feed for different fish feeds

Fish feed is one of the most significant expenses in fish farming. Adopting scientific feeding practices not only promotes the healthy growth and rapid weight gain of fish, but also helps to reduce feed waste, lower farming costs, and improve overall efficiency. There are seven common types of fish feed, each with specific feeding methods: First, grain-based feed. Fish pellets typically range from 2.5 to 8 mm in diameter and 5 to 10 mm in length, which can be directly fed into fish ponds. Before feeding, it's important to check the moisture content. If the feed is too wet, it should be dried first before being used. If the feed has spoiled, it must not be given to the fish to avoid poisoning. Second, cake feed. For smaller fish, cake feed should be broken down, soaked, and refined before feeding. For medium to large fish, soaking the cake feed is sufficient. Third, cereal feed. Large grains like corn should be processed and crushed before being fed to fish. Small grains, such as wheat or rice, can be germinated and then fed. Germinated grains are rich in nutrients, easy for fish to digest, and help them gain weight quickly. Fourth, green feed. Medium to large fish can be fed green feed directly after removing any unwanted parts. For smaller fish, the green feed should be chopped or mashed, mixed with 0.2% salt, and then fed. It can also be cooked with some bran and soda added to make it more palatable. Fifth, by-product feed. Fish can be fed with fermented dregs, especially for medium to large fish. Start with a small amount at the beginning of the feeding session and gradually increase, but never exceed 30% of the total daily feed. Sixth, protein feed. Worms, fly larvae, and insects are all excellent sources of animal protein. They can be fed directly to fish or dried and ground into powder to mix with other feeds. For bulk animal-based feeds, they should be chopped, ground, and formed into small pellets for easier consumption. Seventh, manure-based feed. Chicken, pig, and cow manure are all effective fish feeds when properly prepared. After drying and grinding the manure into powder, it can be mixed with other feeds in appropriate proportions. The recommended ratios are generally 40-50% chicken manure, 50-70% cow dung, and 30-50% pig manure to ensure balanced nutrition without overloading the fish’s system. By carefully managing these feeding methods, fish farmers can significantly improve productivity while keeping costs under control.
