Transmission Faults and Repair Technologies of Main Parts

When a gear shift becomes difficult or stuck, several common issues may be at play. The gear lever fork might be loose or deformed, causing misalignment. Additionally, the positioning groove and pin on the shift shaft could be worn, leading to irregular steps that make shifting challenging. A deformed gearbox or a misaligned shift lever can also contribute to this issue. If the clutch isn’t fully disengaged or the small brake fails, it can result in similar problems. Another common issue is when the gears automatically disengage. This often happens due to excessive wear on the gear end faces, reducing the meshing surface and creating an axial force that causes the gears to separate. A broken positioning pin or failed steel ball can lead to vibrations that cause the gears to uncouple. Worn fork and gear groove components may also allow the sliding gear to move axially, resulting in unintended shifts. Gear shifting chaos typically occurs when the positioning system fails. A weak or broken spring, worn shift head, or damaged guide can prevent the gear from staying in place, leading to erratic shifting. Noises during operation are often caused by improper gear clearance. If the backlash is too small or too large due to long-term wear, the gears may not mesh properly, resulting in noise. Worn bearings, spacers, or insufficient lubrication can also cause abnormal sounds within the gearbox. Gearbox repairs can take various forms depending on the damage. One method is repositioning or flipping the gear if it’s only worn on one side. For example, some tractor final drive gears have symmetrical designs and can be reversed for continued use. Another technique is the ring insertion method, where individual gear teeth are replaced with new rings. This involves annealing the gear, removing the old teeth, and pressing on a new ring before welding it in place. For smaller gears operating under low load and speed, the insert method is effective. This involves machining a dovetail groove into the gear root and inserting a new tooth with interference fit, followed by welding. Surface repair is used when teeth are collapsed or excessively worn. The gear is cleaned, and the damaged area is welded using matching material. After machining, the gear is tempered to relieve internal stresses. Transmission case repairs involve fixing bearing seat holes through boring and inserting sleeves. The material should match the original, and precise tolerances must be maintained. Cracks or holes in the housing can be repaired with patches, welding, or adhesives. Patching involves drilling and securing a metal plate with screws, while welding requires preparing the crack and filling it with appropriate materials. These methods ensure that gearboxes remain functional and reliable, extending their lifespan and maintaining performance. Each repair approach is tailored to the specific type of damage, ensuring proper alignment, strength, and durability. Regular maintenance and timely repairs are essential to prevent more severe issues and maintain smooth operation.
