The Prevention and Treatment of Common Diseases in Horses in the Autumn

Ascariasis: A parasitic disease caused by aphids that infest the small intestine. Primarily infringes young puppies under 2 years of age, especially young puppies within 10 months of age are most susceptible to infection. When a large number of worms are parasitized in the intestines, the affected animals suffer from progressive weight loss, pale mucous membranes, constipation and diarrhea, and occasionally spasm, intestinal obstruction or intestinal fissure. The growth and development of pups is stagnant, and neurological symptoms such as ankylosing spasticity, paralysis of the hind limbs, and arrogance are disturbed. When there are a lot of larvae in the lungs, it can also cause coughing.

Doing a good job in housing hygiene, excreting and fermenting manure, and avoiding feces from contaminating forage and drinking water are the keys to prevent this disease. Autumn is the golden season of deworming, and the purified trichlorfon is formulated into 5% solution with warm water at a ratio of 30 mg to 50 mg per kilogram of body weight, and is injected into the stomach tube in an early morning fasting. It is also possible to mix a 10% solution of trichlorfon in a proper amount of bran and allow the animals to feed freely after mixing. Or use 0.2g per kilogram of body weight of quebracholine and mix it into the feed once.

Gastroenteritis: Secondary gastroenteritis is common in the course of bowel constipation and gastrointestinal parasitic diseases. The infected animals continuously excreted soft or watery stools, which were mixed with blood and necrotic tissue pieces. Severe diarrhea sick animals dehydration symptoms. The body temperature of most sick animals rose to above 40°C. A few diseased animals did not see fever until late, and individual diseased animal body temperatures remained low. The most acute ones often do not wait for diarrhea to facilitate death within 24 hours.

Treatment: (1) Antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. Oral sulfamethoxazole 20 grams to 30 grams, 3 times a day. Or furazolidrine per pound of body weight 0.005 grams to 0.01 grams per day, 2 to 3 times orally. (2) Laxit and diarrhea. With sodium sulfate or artificial salt 300 grams to 400 grams dubbed 6% to 8% of the solution, plus 50 ml of alcohol, 10 grams of fish fat 10 grams, and mix thoroughly orally. For gastrointestinal relaxation of the affected animals, available liquid paraffin oil 500 ml ~ 1000 ml or 500 ml of vegetable oil, add fish 10 g ~ 30 g, mix appropriate amount of warm water orally. (3) rehydration, detoxification, strong heart. Before rehydration, bleed blood from 1000 ml to 2000 ml, and then supply 1,000 ml to 2,000 ml of compound sodium chloride solution, physiological saline or 5% glucose sodium chloride solution, 3 times to 4 times a day. In order to relieve poisoning, 500 ml to 800 ml of 5% sodium carbonate solution may be added during infusion. In order to maintain the heart function, 10 ml to 20 ml of 20% sodium agar solution and 10 ml to 20 ml of 20% camphor oil can be used, and subcutaneous injections are performed once daily for 1 to 2 times. Can also be used for 10 ml to 20 ml, with subcutaneous, intramuscular or intravenous injection. (4) symptomatic therapy. Obese patients with obvious abdominal pain can be intramuscularly injected with 30% of metastable 20ml of amikacin, and the stomach can be taken orally when the inflammation is basically eliminated. Calcium gluconate solution 250 ml to 500 ml, 1 intravenous injection may be used for gastrointestinal bleeding. Or 10% calcium chloride solution 10 ml ~ 150 ml, 1 slow intravenous injection.

Esophageal Infarction: Ingestion of roots such as sweet potatoes, potatoes, radishes, etc. in livestock is too fast, chewing is incomplete, excessive swallowing, or sudden startle during feeding can cause esophageal infarction. Non-weaned puppies may also develop this disease due to feeding on fodder or horse dung.

The prevention of the disease lies in the regular ration during feeding, so as not to over-starve and prevent overeating. Root-type feed should be properly chopped. The key to treatment is the exclusion of infarcts.
