Diagnosis and treatment of infectious chicken encephalomyelitis in five black chickens and green shell layers

Chicken infectious encephalomyelitis mainly harms chicks younger than one month old. After becoming infected with the disease, chickens generally do not show symptoms. Only about 2 weeks after laying, the eggs decrease and then return to normal. After the chicken is infected with the disease, the main characteristic symptoms are weakness in the leg and head and neck tremor. If it is not treated in time, it will cause a large number of deaths and cause huge economic losses to the chicken industry. The diagnosis and treatment of an outbreak of chicken infectious encephalomyelitis in a chicken is reported below. 13972030507
First, the incidence
On May 12, 2002, a chicken farm in Julu County, Hebei Province, purchased 2,500 chicks. On the 2nd day after hatching, there were several chicks that became soft, and then they increased day by day. On the 7th day, about 200 chickens developed soft feet. Most of these chickens were stepped to death due to inconvenience in action or died of famine because they could not eat feed or drink water. The chicken farmer has been raising chicken for many years and has rich experience, and the breeding performance has been very good. From the day of hatching, a multivitamin was added to the feed and the chicks were given water using enrofloxacin and the like. When chicks had soft feet, they immediately added therapeutic amounts of vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin E, cod liver oil, norfloxacin, but they could not control the condition. After going to our hospital for diagnosis and treatment, the epidemic was quickly controlled. After investigating the breeder farm that supplied the chicks, it was found that immunization programs did not use the chicken infectious encephalomyelitis vaccine for immunization.
Second, the symptoms of poor chicken spirit, eyesight drowsiness, followed by movement disorders, the legs can not be autonomous, walking around when the East meets West, gradually can not stand to the ankle, sitting on the ground, was a dog sitting position. With the development of the disease, neurological symptoms are obvious, head and neck tremors often occur, and finally paralyzed. The lens of one or both eyes of some chicks is cloudy and the vision disappears. The pheasants still have appetite and drinking, but because they can't stand, they can't eat feed, they can't drink water and they are killed or starved to death by other chickens.
Three, necropsy lesions co-detection of 25 dead chickens, the main lesion is brain tissue edema, there is a clear sense of watery sample under the meninges, meningeal hemorrhage or bleeding spots, swelling of the ankle joints, there are jelly under the legs Exudate like. No significant changes were seen in other organs.
Fourth, laboratory tests
1. The blood, liver, and spleen smears of sick (dead) chickens were stained with Gram and Wright's stains. No microscopic bacteria were found on microscopic examination.
2. The diseased material was cultured on nutrient agar and no bacterial growth was observed.
3. Agar diffusion test. 20 blood samples were taken from the diseased chicks, serum was separated, agar diffusion test was performed with known infectious encephalomyelitis antigens, and antibodies in the serum were measured. As a result, 18 lines of the diseased chicks showed precipitation lines.
According to the incidence, clinical symptoms, necropsy changes and laboratory test results, the diagnosis of chicken infectious encephalomyelitis.
V. Prevention measures
1. After the diagnosis is made, the sick and dead chickens will be eliminated and the treatment will be carried out. The internal and external environment and utensils of the whole chicken farm will be completely disinfected. The chicken's off-site environment was sterilized with 3% caustic soda, and the sheds were disinfected with Green Weapon Disinfectant once a day for 10 consecutive days.
2. Strengthen feeding and management, add a variety of vitamins, vitamins AD3 powder, vitamin E in the feed to increase the disease resistance of the chicken body.
3. Treatment: Drink Banlangen granules in drinking water, 15 grams per bag, 1 bag per 100 chicks, 2 times a day, once every 5 to 7 days. At the same time, 0.3% hydrochloric acid morpholine diterpene was added to the feed. To prevent secondary infection, 0.2% oxytetracycline was also added to the feed for 5 to 7 days. After taking the above prevention measures, the condition was quickly controlled and the flock gradually returned to normal.
VI. Discussion
1. Infectious encephalomyelitis is a viral infection that mainly affects chicks within 1 month of age. The incidence of chicks is usually caused by both vertical and horizontal transmission. After the chicken is infected with the virus, part of the produced egg is infected with virus, and part of the virus-infected chicks are hatched. Most of the virus-carrying diseases occur within 10 days of age. The excreta of these diseased chicks infect the same group of chicks. The most important measure for prevention and control of the disease is to prepare immunization vaccination before the breeding of the breeder. If the breeders are not vaccinated with chicken infectious encephalitis, if the eggs are suddenly reduced in the condition of normal feeding and management without any symptoms, the veterinarian should be consulted for laboratory diagnosis. If the disease is diagnosed, the eggs should not be used for hatching and can be used as commercial eggs until at least 20 days before the egg production returns to normal or when the egg production falls.
2. When the chicks have been diagnosed as the disease, any chicks with symptoms should be immediately eliminated and buried deeper away from the chicken farm to reduce infection in the same house, protect other chicks, and thoroughly sterilize the huts. Healthy chicks add some antiviral drugs to their drinking water and feed. Affected chickens are likely to cause secondary infections, and precautions should be taken to adopt supplementary treatment measures to enhance the body's resistance. Early detection, early diagnosis and early treatment of chickens can increase the cure rate. If the incidence of chickens is high, the chickens can be completely eliminated. After the chickens are completely sterilized, they can be reared again. When re-feeding, young chickens that have been vaccinated with the disease vaccine should still be purchased. These chicks already have maternal antibodies and are resistant to this disease.
3. There are many reasons for the occurrence of soft pedals in chickens. The main ones are:
(1) Infectious diseases such as Newcastle disease, Marek's disease, staphylococcal disease, listeriosis, infectious encephalomyelitis, viral arthritis, and infectious synovitis.
(2) Nutritional diseases such as vitamin B2, vitamin E, vitamin A, vitamin D, and partial trace element deficiency.
(3) Toxic diseases, such as maduramycin poisoning, salinomycin poisoning, etc., should be finally diagnosed according to the incidence, clinical symptoms, pathological changes and laboratory diagnosis.

Nv Er Hong, literally means Daughter Red, a metaphor of a girl reached her full maturity through 18 years of upbringing. In ancient times, parents bought jarred wine and stored when daughter were born, and when their daughter were married at the age of 18, they would open the jar to drink the wine. It reveals Chinese cultural characteristics and echoes with Zhuang Yuan Hong. With red as the main color for packing, a celebrative color, deeply loved by the newlyweds. A mild wine, suitable for wedding.
