Harvesting and seed treatment of tomato hybrids
Harvest of Hybrid Fruits
When the artificially emasculated and pollinated hybrid tomatoes change from yellow to red, it's important to carefully inspect and remove any allelopathic fruits, deformed fruits, or self-pollinated fruits one by one. These should be identified based on the marks made during the artificial emasculation and pollination process. Once the fruits are fully mature, they can be harvested. During the harvesting process, it's crucial to thoroughly remove all unwanted fruits—such as heterozygous, malformed, or self-pollinated ones—and store them in a safe place. Let the fruits ripen for one or two more days before separating the seeds from the pulp.Seed Treatment of Hybrid Fruits
After picking the fruits, allow them to ripen further before processing to separate the seeds from the pulp. It is essential to avoid using metal tools like iron or aluminum during this process, as contact with metal can cause the seed coats to darken, which may reduce the commercial value of the seeds. There are generally two common methods for processing: First, when the seed production area is small and only a limited number of fruits are harvested at a time, you can use a knife to cut the fruits in half and squeeze out the seeds along with the pulp into a large plastic or porcelain basin filled with water. If the pulp is not clean, it can be washed in the water (the pulp can be used as food or animal feed). Leave the mixture overnight to ferment. Then, transfer the pulp, seeds, and water into a plastic woven bag and manually squeeze out most of the liquid. Pour the contents into a pot, rub the seeds with your hands while washing them 2–3 times to ensure they are clean. Dry the cleaned seeds on a wooden board or reeds, and then store them in a cool, dry place for long-term use. Second, when dealing with a larger seed production area and a higher volume of fruits, dig a pit or use a large porcelain bowl lined with plastic film. After ripening the fruits, place them in the pit or bowl and crush them using a wooden tool or by wearing rubber shoes to step on them. Let the mixture ferment overnight. Use a bamboo sieve to filter out the pulp, which can be used as livestock feed. Transfer the remaining pulp and seeds into a large water basin, stir with a wooden stick, and then place the mixture into a plastic woven bag. Squeeze out as much pulp and water as possible, and then pour the contents into a basin. Rub the seeds by hand, similar to how rice is washed, and rinse them 2–3 times until clean. Dry and store the seeds in the same way as the first method.Neck Brace,Cervical Collar,Neck Collar Brace,Cervical Brace
